This is z4root and is supposed NOT to work for the HTC Desire or Desire HD.

Just use VISIONary to root your desire hd, that's what I did

Yep, r14 of VISIONary+ will temproot an HTC Desire just fine. Personally I don't need permroot as I don't want to void the warranty on my contract phone.

VISIONary allows you to temp and permroot, it also gives you the option to unroot although I haven't tested this

oh boy - this "release" is z4root 1.3.0 - its free, its old, its well discussed, it doesnt belong here...

about your questions - unrevoked can root most phones. they are not only rooted then, but they have a custom recovery (clockworkmod). custom recoverys allow you to do a low level backup and restore and install custom roms. unrevoked on desire hd also does s-off.

check xda forums if you wanna learn more about your phone. you can do incredible things - custom roms usually include increased battery life, faster operation, debranding, additional features, newer android version than available from vendor
