Post How To Help Build Your Child’s Vocabulary

    http://www.humptybumptykids.com/how-...ds-vocabulary/

When a baby starts growing, a common concern for parents is to find different ways of enhancing the kid’s vocabulary. However delightful the babbling and the baby talks are, we all know that it’s time that the toddler speaks something more and expresses himself better.

Very soon your little darling will be going to school where he would need to communicate his needs to teachers, nannies and other children.

For the same, you would need to build your toddler’s vocabulary and enhance his communication skills.

How do you get your child to grasp good vocabulary and language without going through a strenuous process for both him and you? We have put down some tips and tricks which will help you see your child improve his vocabulary and language skills.

Love for Books - The biggest solution to increase vocabulary is reading.

    • Reading Aloud: You can get your little one interested in reading through bedtime stories. Buy a few fairy tales or story books and read it aloud to him every night before he sleeps. Pick up a few simple words from the story and repeat them over and over with actions for him to grasp it.

    • Pictorial Depictions: Get your toddler a few board books, pop-up books or regular books with big and animated illustrations. Big pictures always attract attention. A book with pictures would make him want to go back to the book and read it again. Pictorial associations also help them remember words and phrases better.

Learning through Games – The best way to learn is through entertainment. It holds true for kids too. Make playtime his learning time. While playing with ball, shape sorters or play dough, teach him numbers, colours, and shapes.

Talk to Him - Never underestimate the importance of good conversation. Converse with your child normally as if he is an adult who understands your language; so stop mouthing baby words please. Also, whenever you are doing your household chores, talk to him about it; for instance “I am cooking potatoes” or “I am washing dirty socks”.

Show Him - Kids learn faster when you show them things. For example, take him to the market and show him fruits and vegetables. At the zoo, teach him different animals. If you take him to the park or the beach, teach him nature related words. When kids see things before them, they associate with them better and learn faster though it might not always be feasible to teach them with practical examples.

Make him Socialize - Most language is learnt naturally through listening to people around. Socializing with other children and elders is always a great way to improve his vocabulary. Even if your child is not exposed to some words, when he talks to other people he tends to learn from them and improve his own language.

Remember, the more words that your child hears on a daily basis, the more he’ll learn, absorb and eventually put to use himself.
